Increase to High Income Thresholds for Unfair Dismissal Applications

From 1 July 2018, there will be an increase in the high-income threshold for unfair dismissal applications.

Currently, an employee not covered by an Award or agreement, who earns over $142,000 per year, is not eligible to lodge an unfair dismissal application. This figure will be rising to $145,400 per year.

Aside from widening the base of people who can make a claim, it also increases the amount that can be awarded to successful applicants. Under the new system, the maximum payout resulting from an unfair dismal claim will rise from $71,000 to $72,700.
